THE PROVINCIAL SCHOLAR. SHIPS.
The result of the competition for these schola ships was made known this afternoon hy the Board of Examiners in the new Athcnamm in the presence of a large nuinlv'r of the friends of the competitors and the public. There were three scholarships open for High School hoys and two for district school hoys, Imt no full scholarships were to be awarded unless 75 per cent, of the total number of marks were obtained. All competitors from erammir or district schools who obtained the undermentioned per centages were entitled to the following ad van tages: 60 to 65 per cent., two years’ free education; 65 to 70, three years’; 70 to 75, four years’; 75 to SO, five years’. No competitor has gained 75 per cent, of the aggregate number of attaiuab e marks, which was the maximum standard tixed for a scholarship. The following have gained free education at the High School, a Grammar School, or approved District School :—Cohen, Middle Distiiet, four yean’ free education; Sinclair, Blueskin, three years ; Stilling, Middle District School, three years ; Aitken, Middle District School, three years ; Harper, Middle District School, throe years ; Eyres, Middle District School, two years; Kerr, N. 1)., two years; Hislop, E.T., two years ; Boid, NVl’., two years ; Simmers Otupopo, two years; Prain, E.T., two years. In addition to the foregoing, the following mentioned boys arc entitled to certificates of merit :—-Stuart, IT.S ; Smith, H.S. ; M‘indoe, S.D. ; Mathieson, Tokomairiro, Buchanan, West Taieri; Wilkinson, M. D.
