CHURCH OF ENGLAND SYNOD.
At the sitting of the Synod yesterday, Archdeacon Maunsell’s motion declining to recognise Bishop Jenner's claim to the Bi-hoprie of Dunedin was withdrawn. A Bill defining ecclesiastical offences and punishments was read a second time and ordered to be committed on Friday. Certain proposed alterations respecting parochial privileges were proposed and negatived. On the motion of Mr E. C. Quick it was resolved that the Synod refused to sanction the nomination of Bishop Jenuer to tie See of Dunedin, and sympathising with him in his position. The only point discussed was tie expression of sjunpithy with the Bishop, which several members of the Synod said they did not feel, and [did not consider that even politeness should ask them to profess. A discussion took place on a motion by Archdeacon Maunsell to provide a bishop’s residence in Dunedin. Ultimately an amendment upon it was carried, which merely provided that the Primate should comm uicatc with the Bishop of Lichfield to obtain leave to invest the money now lying in the Bank of New Zealand profitably.
