Mr Macabdicw ypoke for nearly two hours, his speech being a repetition of that delivered by him at the Masonic Hall; ‘ but he wap subjeeled to considerable interruption, in which Messrs J. L. C»lilies and Mackay played a conspicuous park At the conclusion of the speech Mr Houston moved a resolution, to the effect that the meeting thanked Mr Macandrew for his address,' but, .considering his conduct for the p ist four years, "had no cufilujeifcp in him. Mr Cuiminghame moved an ' amendment thanking Mr Macandrew for i)js able address, fi-pm the courteous manner iu which hojpM answered jme/jiipus, and for successfully combating bis opponents, Op th e amendment being put, a perfect forest of _ hands was held up for it, and some six against it. A great deal of confusion then arose, and when Something like order had heeit obtained, .the ehuirmun was requested to read the motion, but failed fb do 1 so, intimating that ho thought it would be better if lib simply asked Those who opposed the candidate to negative the amendment .This ‘did not appear to satisfy the meeting, who clamored that the resolution should be read, which was done by Mr Macandrew. On the Amendment being put for the second time, it was declared to have been carried by a large majority. Our informant states ffbat a good number of hands were held up against it,, but ia unable to give us the approximate numbers either way.
