Yesterday.
(Before his Worship the Mayor, and W, Mason, Esq., J.P.) DRUNKENNESS. John Duncan was lined ss; and James Whebby was discharged with a s 'caution, VAGRANCY. James Rower was sent to jail for ajjnonth for soliciting alms in Princes street. MINOR OFFENCES. George Paterson was mule ed in costs for alio-ring a horse to stray. D maid MTCay, Dan. Niumio, Win. Sayers, Jomth.m Huds hi, Jas. M‘Taggart, John Beaden, and Jas. Rodgers, farmers, were charge! with violating Bye-law No. 7, by driving through the city empty bay carts, not having derached frames. Mr Bathgate, who defended, submitted that it was necessary to prove that frames endangered the lives and limbs of the citizens, or caused an obstruction, which had not been done The Bench considered the argument untenable, but intimated that, being a first offence, they would dismiss the case. Patrick Brodrick, charged with a similar offence, not appearing, was fined 5s and costs. This Day. (Before His Worship the Mayor, and W. Mason, Esq., J.P.) DRUNKENNESS. Peter M'Liskey was fined ss, and John Agnfiw was discharged with a caution. CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTER. On the application of Mr Barton (with whom appeared Mr M'Keay), the hearing of the case' Regina v. Ellon Waterhouse was adjourned for a week, to enable counsel for the accused to prepare her defence. She was admitted to bail as before. RORRERY WITH., VIOLENCE. George Murdoch was charged with having ou the Port Chalmers road, on the 22nd, violently arsauited E. J. Saunders, architect, and robbed him of L2O, The Commissioner of Police, in applying for a remand, briefly stated ttye facts of the case as follows -The prisoner and prosecutor met at the Junction Hotel cu the day in question ; the latter beine somewhat intoxicated. They left together, and on the .road to town prisoner assaulted him, and took his money out pf iiis pocket. Prosecutor found his way back to the hotel, and on reaching him ftfii that the sum named in the information had been stolen from him. Prosecutor bore marks of a severe beating. The prisoner'was remanded until Friday, bail being refused. ASSAULT. Margaret Sti'onach v. James M ‘Vicar. — .On this case being called on, the Clerk to the Bench stated that he had received intimation from the comp'ainant’s solicitor that the case had been settled out of Court. This was denied'by the complainant. After hearing the evidence, the 'Bench fined the defendant 40s and costs. The eroas-case of M ‘Vicar v. Stonach was dismissed, owing to the non-appearance of the complainant.
