The following gentlemen were nominated Mr George AD Lean, proposed by Mr J. Bates, seconded by Mr A. G. Reid. Mr D. Hutcheson, proposed by Mr J. A ride, seconded by Mr D. Malloch. The show of bands was APLean, 17 : Hutcheson, 9.
Mr Arkle demanded a poll on behalf of Mr Hutcheson. Queenstown, January 20. The nomination passed off without speeches. Air Shepherd, to his disgust, was proposed by one Ross, a tailor, and seconded by Samuel, a tinker, amidst much laughter. He was supported by Messrs Robertson and Policy, Mr Haugbton was proposed by Air Paterson, farmer ; and seconded by Air APGonnocbio, a gardener.

The schooner Wiki Duck has arrived from Fiji. While at Santo, the ship s boat, containing the trading master, Mr Morrison, and two ot the crew, named Irsvin and Winter, went ashore. One hundred and fifty Natives attacked them, and murdered the party, who were unarmed. They afterwards tried to board the vessel, but failed, owing to the wind rising. The Provincial Council has voted 1,20,000 for the Kaipara Railway.
Waikato advices state Mv Commissioner Parvis told the Natives that the Government do not intend to fight about the murder of Mr Todd.
