Oamaru, January 13,
The Oamaru company of Volunteers was inspected by Colonel Harrington yesterday, and passed their inspection very creditably. The muster was 45. Colonel Harrington expressed himself pleased with it. He was very particular about the skirmishing.
At the living at the target this morn-
ing the ranges were 200, 400, and 500 yards. Five 'men made an average ot 37 points each.
Christchurch, January 13,
Mr R'jlleston, Superintendent, was returned for the Avon district in the General Assembly without opposition. There were three electors and two nonelectors. present at the nomination. Mr George Allan, an old settler, died suddenly to-day.
Wellington, January 13,
The nomination for Porirua, in the General Assembly, took place to-day. Two candidates offered, Messrs Brandon and Gillon, The show of hands was iu favor of the former, who is considered certain to be returned.
Auckland via Tauranga, January 9.
The Luna has returned from Kawaxt with the Prince, who leaves for England on the 14th.
The City of Melbourne sailed at midnight on the 7th witli 52 passengers, including the Hon. Mr Vogel, Mrs Vogel, Mr Gray (secretary of the post office), Mr E. Fox (secretary to Mr Vogel), Mr and Mrs H. H. Hall, Mr and Mrs Bandmann, and the Hon. Mr Domett,
All is quiet at the Waikato. Col, Lyon, with 100 men, is watching the Natives.
A Mrs Moody fell dead yesterday coming out of chnrch. The Governor and Lady Bowen are expected to proceed South on the 17th, and will be absent about six weeks. The rumor that Herr Bandman took with him to San Francisco the funds received at a charitable performance is untrue.
It is rumored that Mr H. H. Hall has gone to San Francisco to arrange for an Australian steam service.

Tauranga, January 12. The King’s messenger is on his way to Tauranga. There is great excitement in the Waikato. The Europeans are pveparing to arm. There have been heavy floods, and the overland mail to the Thames has been stopped in consequence. The steamer iSamson has been sighted. Hokitika, January 12. Mr H, H. Lahman, member for Grey mouth, lias been elected County Chairman.
