MAYOR’S COURT.

This Day. (Before his Worship the Mayor,) DRUNKENNESS. Michal Fahey was fined ss; and for damaging Constable Matchett’s uniform he was further fined 10s. Isaac Sayers, who appeared to have been so overcome by Saturday night’s festivities as to try on some foolish lark at a policeman’s expense, was discharged with a caution. Francis Hagerty was lined ss. 'the last-named defendant was further fined 33s for destroying a quantity of glass. Michael Cam was discharged with a caution, NEGLECTED CHILD, Mary Thomson, aged about three years, the daughter of a woman who was brought before the Court charged with being a habitual drunkard, was (on the application of the police) sent to the Industrial School for seven years, to be brought up iu the Presbyterian faith. ALLEGED ARSON. James M'Murtrie, was charged with having, at North Taieri, on the 24th ult., maliciously set fire to the dwelling house of Jenet M'Murtrie. The Commissioner of Police stated the coroner bad held an inquiry into the origin of the fire, and the jury returned a verdict against the accussed. It appeared that the accused had settled some property on his wife some years ago; recently they had had a dispute, and in order to render her houseless, he set fire to the property. He was remanded until Thursday, to allow of the attendance of witnesses. KEMANDKD CASE. James Ashworth, charged with wife desertion, was discharged, he having agreed to pay L 3 monthly towards the suppprt of his family.
