(from greville’s telegram company, reoter’s agents.) Taranaki via Nelson, December 29. Four Natives, from Mokau, bring intelligence that the telegraphist and 49 persons have been murdered in the Waikato. There is great consternation, here at the report. Patea, December 31, A man named Daniel Bishop was killed at the Waitara races. Samson Dingle cut his arm and nearly bled to death. He was seventeen hours without assistance, and was found insensible in a pool of blood. Other accidents on Boxing day are reported. A local steamer company has started for the Waitara trade. Wellington, December 31. Dr Featherston landed yesterday at 5 o’clock. The wharf was crowded. The shipping hoisted all their bunting. It was the greatest receeption ever given in Wellington. All the Cabinet Ministers were present, and over a 1000 spectators. Ho was repeatedly and loudly cheered. Mr Richmond is reported to have said at Nelson that he would not stand for Wellington. Napier, December 31. The firing on Thursday has been decided to be informal. The competition therefore took place to-day. The two representatives for the Province are Renouf, 45 ; Chicken, 41. Both belong to the Napier Rifle Yclunteers.
