OTAGO J.P.’S.

To the Editor of the Evening Star

Sir- —When an Otago J.P. condescends to affix his name to suchla choice production as' that which appears in your contemporary of this morning, and signed “ George Lloyd,” I think few persons, indeed, will be found to doubt'that however strong Mr Macassey’s strictures may have been, they were more than deserved by at least one of our local J.P.’s. When Mr Lloyd expresses himself as “ highly delighted” at the grossly disgusting exhibition and disgiaecful rowdyism which occurred at the Theatre the other evening, then, Sir, 1 venture to submit that he has thereby proclaimed his evident unfitness to hold iler Majesty’s Commission of the Peace. Sir, Mr Lloyd hag thought well to indulge the labored efforts of his poor vulgar wit (?) by characterising Mr Vogel as the “Great Wizard of the North.” Now, Sir, it seems to mo that Air Lloyd meant by Iris letter delicately to intimate to Air Vogel his (Air Lloyd’s) special fitness to take part in the Wizard’s performances in the only capacity in which his evident capabilities give him even the remotest chance of ever being justly styled “ great that is to fill the position of that special “performer,” of whom it is specially said “there must be one in every play.” 1 hope Air Vogel will not overlook Air Lloyd’s evident qualifications for the position he is so ambitious and well qua’ilied to fill. Yours, &c., Voter.
