Tins Day. (Before his Worship the Mayor and Thomas Dick, Esip, J.P.) KKKAI'IL OK TJIK UCKXSINfI onmxANcu, Ed. Ik Ifammond was charged with suffering prostitutes to remain in ins licensed house, Martin’s Hotel, Stafford street, and with selling liquor on .Sunday. Mr Harris, who defended, admitted the charges, hut asked that the .Bench might deal leniently with the ease, as it was a lirst offence, and his client horo a very good character and conducted his house excellently, as the evidence of the police and the memorial he held in his hand, signed by respectable neighbors, testified. The Dench said that fm- otic of the offences they had no alternative hut to fine. There was no doubt of the respectability of Mr llammoiul’s character and of tin; way in which ho conducted his house; and under the circumstances, as the police had stated the cases were only brought as a warning to publicans, the one would lie dismissed, and in the other a fine of 5s and costs would be imposed.
