Waste Land Hoard. —The meeting of the Waste band Board was held yesterday at, noon. Present— I TheChief Commissioner of Waste Lands, Messrs Reid and llngh-s. George Walker. Lawrence, was authorised to charge 12s fid for coal at the pit’s mouth. C 1111' 11 and Moodie obtained permission to purchase sections 1 and 2, block 10, Waihob. D. Grant for W. Briggs, part of section 11, biock 0, Maunlierikia. Permission was granted to survey land applied for by Mr Burke at applicants cxponce—the land to he sold by auction. Gillies and Street’s application for certain sections in the Dunhack and V aihemo districts, to lie thrown open, was declined. An occupation license was granted to D. S. bawlor, for land at Mussel Beach, at Li per acre. Hugh (’alder’s valuation of Sections 4 and 5. block 2, was app oved, as also was the application of .lames Douglass to purchase certain sections at tno Shotover. It was not thought, advisable to grant a second coal lease to V., P>. ( aims. I lie applications of Messrs Bathgate and Kenyon on behalf of Messrs bow, Sutherland, and Pitson, were referred to the Provincial Solicitor. The application of J. T. Gardner f r purchase of an agricultural lease at Table Hill was declined.
Port Chalmers. —The nomination of a Councillor for the Middle Ward took place at won yesterday. A considerable number of the ratepayers were present; and his Worship the Mayor presided. Mr John Smith propo ed. and Mr William Peacock seconded, Mr Thomas Hose. At't I.imatisatiox.--Theweekly mooting of tho Acclimatisation Socicqy took place at the City Council Chambers this afternoon. Present Mr Munson in the chair, Messrs Garrick, Matthews, and G. P. Clifford (manager). Thu Manager reported that during the week some of tho trout had died, owing to the high temperature of th > water, making in all about a dozen that had been lost. The water supply had bean so short that, had it depended altogether on the creek, more must have perbhed. He stated also that between Captain Boyd's paddock and his house lie put up a covey of a dozen partridges, which seemed either to lie making a tour of the Coast or had made their way from Green Island, lie was so near to them as to he able ea-ily to distinguish the old birds from the young ones. The Chairman read a letter from Mr Vonng, in reply to one written to him, stating that the Society considered that as brown trout might be considered established in the rivers c hii'.f attention should be directed to the care of sea trout, and if he found it maeticalile, to construct another pond, the Society would contribute LlO towards it. He replied that
