Mr Thenphilus Kissling is appointed Registrar of Deeds, vice Mr Crawford, deceased, and Mr King appointed Deputy-Registrar of the Supreme Court, vice Mr Kissling. The Auckland Race Committee have held a meeting, and drawn up a programme for the meeting at the New Year. The committee to take preliminary steps for the erection of a boiling-down establishment he'd a meeting, and reported favorably on the 22nd. The question will be fully sub■! itted to an adjourned meeting. The Directors of the Importation of PureBred Stock Company have reported that there will. be no difficulty in raising the required sum of LSOOO. The Auckland Bowling Green was formally opened on the 22nd. A seaman named Smith fell from the rigging of H.M.S. Blanche, striking some gear in his fall. The body fell into the water, and has not since been recovered. Blood was found on the rigging, and ho is supposed to have been killed before falling into the water. The Blanche has been thrown open for visitors. Miss Rose Evans has completed her engagement at the Prince of Wales Theatre; and the giant Chang exhibited himself to an admiring audience this afternoon. The Mew Zealand Company’s machine has made a successful start at Coromandel. The inquiry at Coromandel respecting alleged irregularities by a Government official has terminated. The decision has not yet been published. Alluvial wash has been found at a depth of 12 feet from the surface. The ground in the neighborhood was immediately pegged out. Patrick Henuessy Downes was charged at the Thames with a criminal assault upon a little girl two and a half years old, daughter of Martin and Margaret Danahcr. He was acquitted. The Native Laud Court is sitting at the Thames. A Permissive Bill Association has been formed at the Thames. , Considerable activity is being shewn in election matters. Sir George Grey was asked to stand for an Auckland constituency, but his name not being on the electoral roll, he could not accept the invitation. Mr Gillies,' the present .Superintendent, will be asked to-day to stand for the City West. Mr Wi liamson, the late Superintendent, is in the field for the City Wed, and it is believed will go in without opposition. Mr Dignan is also a candidate for the same district. Mr Gillies, it is said, will not oppose them, but will stand for another district. Mr R. Wood is a candidate for Purnell. He will bo opposed by H. H. Lusk. Mr Creighton will be brought out for Newton. Considerable excitement has been caused at Wintakerei, by the elopement of a chief’s wife with a young countryman. They bolted a first time, were brought back, and a reconciliation took place. They, however, eloped again after a few days. The Auckland Naval Volunteers had a very satisfactory shell practice the other day. A target placed in the middle of the harbor was the object, and shells were made to burst very close to it. Extraordinary fossil remaius have been discovered at the Thames, They include remains of Maori weapons, bones, and moat wonderful, of a biscuit. T];i.y will be forwarded to the Auckland Institute,

Advices have been received of 150 tons breadstuffs, per Kate, to anive from Sydney. There is danger of the market being overstocked with breadstuffs.
