Mr Thenphilus Kissling is appointed Registrar of Deeds, vice Mr Crawford, deceased, and Mr King appointed Deputy-Registrar of the Supreme Court, vice Mr Kissling. The Auckland Race Committee have held a meeting, and drawn up a programme for the meeting at the New Year. The committee to take preliminary steps for the erection of a boiling-down establishment he'd a meeting, and reported favorably on the 22nd. The Directors of the Importation of PureBred Stock Company have reported that there will. be no difficulty in raising the required sum of LSOOO. Mr Wi liamson, the late Superintendent, is in the field for the City Wed, and it is believed will go in without opposition. Mr Dignan is also a candidate for the same district. Mr Gillies, it is said, will not oppose them, but will stand for another district. Mr R. Wood is a candidate for Purnell. He will bo opposed by H. H. Lusk. Mr Creighton will be brought out for Newton. Considerable excitement has been caused at Wintakerei, by the elopement of a chief’s wife with a young countryman. They bolted a first time, were brought back, and a reconciliation took place. They, however, eloped again after a few days. The Auckland Naval Volunteers had a very satisfactory shell practice the other day. A target placed in the middle of the harbor was the object, and shells were made to burst very close to it.
