FIAT JUSTITIA, ETC.

To the Editor of the Evening Star, Sir—Pardon me for intruding upon your space in referring to your correspondents, “ Alpha and Omega. ” By their unjustifiable comments, they have evidently evinced a most malignant desire to destroyer, at least, to damage the professional reputation of the “Inspector of Works,” whose ability as a man of science does not require any com* ments from me to confirm, as .his justly appreciated talents are now sufficiently well known. Being, however, desirous to ascer* tain the truth of your correspondent’saasse- t tions, I visited the crane on Rattray street Jetty, and specially tested its utility, which I am proud to say has proved to be perfect in all its details, and of immense service to traders and others requiring it. With respect to the “ Post Office Tramway,” I have been positively informed by a gentleman connected with the department that the complaints made respecting its inutility are perfectly unfounded, as it is in constant use, and proves to be a great boon to the officials by saving a considerable amount of unnecessary labor. The judicious expenditure of a few hundred pounds in these instances sink into insignificance compared with the services rendered, and appears to be a flimsy excuse to bring the gentleman referred to into unenviable notoriety. In justice to the gentleman interested, I request that you will kindly give publicity to these remarks, and oblige, Yours, &c,, J USTICI4.
