MR BATHGATE AND “HIS VENOMOUS ONE.”
To the Editor of the Evening Star. Sir, —I observe that Mr Bathgate is very indignant against “Pharisee” for “lying inferentially.” May not “Pharisee,” after all, have a better case than Mr Bathgate himself. Mr Bathgate asks:—“ How does it stand in the Ordinance ? I read it thus : Home agency £1,001) Immigration ... ... 12,000 Immigration agent ... 1,000 Total £14,000 Who is right, my venemous one—you or I ? ” Mr Bathgate appears utterly oblivious of the fact that, altogether apart from immigration, the item “Home Agency” is a standing charge against the Province for transaction of general business, and the Immigration Agent not having been appointed the LI,OOO voted lapses. Thus, two thousand pounds being str.ick off, only L 12.000 can be appropriated strictly to immigration, as stated by “Pharisee.” Hence it would appear “ my venomous one ” is right after all. Elector,
