BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.
(from greville’s telegram company, Reuter’s agents.) Timaru, October 27. The Agricultural Show held here to-day was magnificent. Campbell and Low won the cup. There was a keen competition. Wellington, October 27. The Independent of to-clay, referring to the Otago Daily Times' statement that free passages were granted by the Government to members’ wives and families, states authoritatively that there is not a particle of truth in the assertion, Christchurch, October 27. The debris of the late fire was fanned into a flame yesterday by a strong north wind, jeopardising the Colonists’ Hall and other buildings. The Volunteers turned out and, after some time, succeeded in extinguishing the flames. The Government continue to send furniture, food, clothing, and other necessaries to those in want. The licensed victuallers' performance last night, in aid of the relief fund, was fairly attended. They have given the proceeds of two performances. Some surprise is expressed here at the apparent want of sympathy in Otago. The prompt action of Nelson is much commented on. Manukau is at 25 to 1 by last Melbourne files. Out of 55 entries it‘is expected only 32 will show at the post.
