Commercial.— The entire cargo of Mauritius sugar ex Oriental (first of new season) was auctioned on the 13bh at L2O for low to L2O 10s 5d for rations ; LSI 10s to L 32 5s for browns ; L 35 to L3(j 15s for yellow ; L3B to 1.40 for low to fine whites. Prices fully sustained the market. The bidding was animated. Considerable quantities of wool are arriving from Echuca. Bread stuffs continue dull. Flour quotations, LI2 5s to Ll2 Ids, according to brand and quantity. Wheat very scarce ; Murray offering at Os 5d ; Victorian, 5s (id to 5s 9cl. Oats steady, at 3s 6d to 3s Bd. Maize firm ;4s2d to 4s 3d asked. Corns.icks have been sold equal to 12s, duty paid, but are now dull again. A trial of the Melbourne Company’s preserved meat took place on board the Lanarkshire on Saturday. The tins opened after two voyages were pronounced to be excellent The Duke of Edinburgh comes to Melbourne this week. Harris, the embezzler, has arrived, but has been remanded for a week. Arrived—liangitoto, Gothenburg, Martha, and Lavinia from Hokitika; Mary, from Westport; Ruby, from Dunedin ; Sarah and Mary, from Hokitika. Sailed—Waterman, for Grey mouth ; 10, for Westport.
