This Day. (Before his Worship the Mayor, and 6. G. Eussell, Esq., J.P.) DRUNKENNESS. Peter Mathcsou and George Lockhart were each fined ss. Mary Ann Buddings did not appear, and the case was further adjourned until to-morrow. OBSCENE LANGUAGE. Catherine Miller was fined 40s, or three days’ imprisonment; and Anne Nolan LlO, or three months’ inqn’isonmenfc. The alternative was accepted iu both cases. FIGHTING. James Donnelly and Patrick Buckley were charged with this offence. It appeared that a few evenings ago Mr John Barnes, when on his way home, observed the men having a “set to” on a vacant piece of ground in Union street. He called upon them to desist, when Buckley threatened that if he got down out of his buggy he would serve him something after the way be was serving Donnelly. Both men were very much cut about. They afterwards retreated to a house, where they continued the fight until they were arrested. They are recent arrivals from Melbourne. The Bench imposed a fine of 20s each. BREACH OF THE LICENSING ORDINANCE. Alex. MTlroy was charged with keeping his house open after hours. On Sunday morning last the attention of Constable Anderson was directed to the defendant’s house, the Gridiron Hotel, Princes street, iu consequence of a great noise in a room behind the bar, caused by men wrestling. After cautioning tlie landlord lie went away, and returned at a quarter past three with Sergeant Baxter. They then found a number of men in a half intoxicated state, singing and making other noises. As it was the first case of the kind brought before the Court, the Bench decided to dismiss it, intimating that future cases of the kind would be severely dealt with.
