Notwithstanding the appearance of bad weather today, the ground was pegged out between St. Andrew street and the foot of Stuart street jetty, and a party of twenty or thirty men were at work at the end of St. Andrew street. Mining Notes. — lntelligence from Bendigo gully states that the Cromwe l Company had a washing up last Monday of 300 ounces for eight days’ crushing. They have ten stampers at work, and with the quantity of stone they have on band and their wide reef, they should make a good show this season. The Aurora company will commence crushing next week, and Colclough and Co. are busy getting out stone Then machinery is expected to be erected in about a fortnight. The news from Alexandria is to the effect that the claims there arc in full work. The dredge at Onc-milc Beach is doing well, and the Kcavsage is at work on good gold. The Alabama is working in front of Frenchman’s Point, but is not doing much. The increasing value of mining property in the Drybrcad district is fully borne out by some shares that recently changed hands. A Mr Mayer disposed of his interest (a fourth share) in a water race, and a second share in Perseverance Race Company, for LSOO Another ccf has been discovered in the Carrick range. It is said to he about 14 inches in thickness, and gold is plainly dh-ct rouble in the stone. The prospectors washed a pennyweight and a half of gold from a billyful of stuff.
