THE UNEMPLOYED.

In compiancc with the request of a number of working men, we insert the following resolutions passed at a meeting in the Octagon. We are not able to say who were there, how many, or who was the chairman : “ 1. That, in the opinion of this meeting, the work given out by the Government for the unemployed is not suited to many who require work ; that there should be some kind of work for those who have not the tools for stonebrcfiking, or the means to get them with, and who know nothing about stonebreaking, as it is utterly impossible that men who have never broken stones can earn sufficient to support themselves and families.” <’ “2. That, in the opinion of this meeting, it is only an attempt on the (part of the Government to shuffle out of au imperative duty; in fact, the farce of throwing a bone, to a hungry dog to stop its mouth,” “ 3. That in the opinion of this meeting it is necessary for the welfare of all parties that letters bo prepared immediately, giving a truthful account of the state of affairs in this Province. That one of these letters be sent for insertion in each of the leading journals in the United Kingdom, with the view of staying assisted immigration to these shores until such time as the men already out of employment are in receipt of work, and a fair rate of wages; and also with a view of showing to intending immigrants that the statements sent Home in Government pamphlets and statistics, and cii ciliated by their agent or agents, are a snare and a delusion as false as hell, and as little to lie relied upon.”
