PORT CHALMERS.
A meeting of the members of the Churcb of England, at Port Chalmers, was held in the Masonic Hall last evening, 10th inst. ; Rev. T. L. Stanley presiding. The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed, Mr Connor proposed, and Mr Hudson seconded, the following resolution : —“ That in the opinion of this meeting, the timo has arrived when it is advisable to take steps for the erection of a building in this district, the said building to form the whole or part of a church for the worship of Almighty God, according to the formularies of the Church of England.” Mr R. Toms proposed, and Mr Rolfe seconded, that the following gentlemen form the building committee, viz.—Messrs Rolfe, Guise, Crickmore, Dench, Mausford, Hudson, Dodson, Connor, and the mover. On the motion of Mr H. Dench, seconded by Mr Mansfokd, it was resolved—That the building committee be authorised to collect subscriptions and receive suitable plans ; the said jihms to be submitted to a future parish meeting. On the motion of Mr Dench, seconded by Mr Mxnsfobd, it was the building committed be authorised to select a suitable site, and report at a future meeting.
The whole of the above resolutions were carried unanimously. Mr Rolfe congratulated the members of the parish on the hearty manner in which they had put their shoulders to the wheel. The offertories had far exceeded the expectations of the Church officers already. They had made purchases and incurred expenses that would not again be needed. He was happy to say that there had been sufficient funds, and that the whole present liabilities did not exceed L 4. The Masonic Hall had been leased for twelve months on very favorable terms. He felt confident that they would nob require to renew the lease, but would have a church erected if the same interest was coijtinud to bo shown. He also acknowledged the receipt of a tablet, value LG, from Mr Nicholson, painter He concluded by saying that the Committee would be glad to receive any suggestions from any person present. A vote of thanks to the Chairman for his attendance and valuable suggestions, which was duly responded to, terminated the proceedings.
