servant, was charged with stealing a dross valued at L2, the property of one Jessie Clark. The prosecutrix and prisoner were fellow servants. Yesterday the prisoner received notice to leave her situation, and as she asserts, being unable to obtain her wages or her clothes, “in a fit of desperation,” took the article of dress. When arrested she denied all knowledge of the thing, hut when a pawn ticket, which she had placid in the possession of the person with whom she was staying was j reduced to the constable, she confessed her guilt. It was stated by the Commissioner of Police that she was a rather loose character, and that her a ! tempts at reform were always frustrated by her drinking propensities. She was sentenced to a month’s imprisonment.
