[from ovk own correspondent.] . Wellington, July 21. The debate on tho financial scheme terminated at 12 o’clock last night, Mr Yogel spoke for four hours. The Government carried their resolutions unanimously on the voices, a result that has given great satisfaction. On Mr Birch’s motion—“ That with the view of obtaining an account of the expenditure of the L4OO advanced to Mr Mantell in reference to the Princes street reserve, and that tho Government be requested to furnish the House with copies of all papers or correspondence bearing on the terms or conditions upon which such money was paid,” a warm debate took place, and the further consideration of the matter was adjourned for a week. Port Chalmers, 4.1 The Mayor, H. Rolfe, Esq., as returning officer announced the poll to be —Hugh M‘Derraid, 73 ; T. Tayler, (13. Mr M‘Dermid is therefore Mayor for the ensuing year. The candidates made appropriate speeches and were loudly cheered. Considerable interest has been shown.
