Wellington, July 15
Mr Reader Wood’s amendment has been withdrawn in favor of the Government scheme. Mr Stevens made a long and uninteresting speech last night. Mr Fitzherbert spoke for two hours and a half in favor of the scheme, Messrs Birch, M‘lndoe, and Peacock, as commercial representatives, also spoke in its favor.
