PUBLIC MEETING.

At a general meeting at the New Post Office Hall this afternoon, presided over by iiis Honor the Deputy-Superintendent, the following resolution was proposed by Mr E. 13. Cargill, and seconded by Mr H. S. Fish :

“That this meeting, without committing itself to an approval of the details, is of opinion that the financial proposals of the Colonial Treasurer, embody a scheme which is calculated to promote the settlement and po.tm.ment prosperity of the colony. The adoption of a general and comprehensive system of immigration and pnMic works of a reproductive character, judicious'y carried out, wil tend to develope the great natural resources of the country, and raise it from that depression which at present exists in all its varied interests.”
