THE FINANCIAL SCHEME.

To the Editor of the Evening Star.

Sir, —Docs it not seem unaccountably strange that Otago should always be so far behind other places in giving expression to its opinion in regard to matters of public po'jey affecting all classes oi the community such as the present financial proposals of the Colonial Treasurer. Nelson has already had its public meeting, as well as Christchurch and other places. But the electors of Otago, what do they care ? Surely it is the duty of the people of Otago to acquaint their representatives in the Assembly of thuir views r speeding such important proposals as those now under consideration. It nny be that the majority of the electors will not be so blindfolded as your morning contemporary, the Otago Doily Times, in hastily condemning a scheme which when properly matured may prove the wisest and most beneficial that could under the present circumstances of the Colony be adopted. Trusting that some of our leading citizens will take the matter up. I am, &c., An Elector. Dunedin, July 8, 1870.
