(from our own correspondents.) Auckland, May 2G. Wellington, May 30. A grand review and sham fight took place on the Queen’s Birthday. The Governor attended as commander-in-chief of the forces of the Colony. An infant son of Mr Thomas Ensor fell into a bucket of water and was drowned. The Native Land Court at Ohinemuri is still sitting. Te Hira attended at the conclusion, and in the course of his examination said —“ I hold Ohiuemuri in my hand, and will not let it go.” W. Fagg has been committed for trial at the Thames, on a charge of selling needle guns, caps, &c., to the Maoris two years ago. The schooner Sulu has arrived from the South Sea Islands, bringing twentyseven islanders under engagement to work at the flax mills for a term of years. They are said to have come voluntarily, but other circumstances throw a doubt upon this. It would seem as if the chiefs had been bribed to ship them, The importation is condemned by the PreSvS, as opening the door for the same irregularities which have caused such trouble in Queensland. Hokitika, May 30. Mr David Curie, proprietor of the /ioss Guardian , has been committed for trial for libel on the County Chairman (Mr Hoos). He has been .admitted to bail, himself in a surety of LSO, and two sureties of L 25. The schooner Dunedin sails for Dunedin to-morrow. Clyde, May 30. The Shotovcr Bridge was opened with great eclat on Tuesday. Several teams passed over. A man came in contact with one of the drays, and was run over and severely hurt. Shcnnan and party have arrived in Queenstown from the Wept Coast, and report fa vorably. The trial crushing of Loughnan and Co.’s (late Richmond’s) claim, Cromwell, went 1J ounces to the to u. The trial crushing of the Victoria Company has given a satisfactory return.
