CITY COUNCIL.
The Council met this afternoon. Present —His Worship the Mayor (in the chair), Messrs Fish, Griffin, Wilkinson, Walters, Carrol. Thoneman, and Wilson. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. A quantity of correspondence with reference to various city improvements were referred to the various committees. Reports were read from Mr Inspector Nimmo and from the City Surveyor, which were received. The Gas Committee brought up the following report, which was received, and it consideration appointed to take place at a special meeting to be held on Tuesday next: “ April 27, 1870. “ Your Committee have the honor to report that since the last meeting of the Council they have had before them and carefully considered a report from Mr. Blair, 0.E., as to the present value of the Dunedin Gas Company’s works. “ 'I he report is herewith submitted. Your Committee recommend that an effer be made to Messrs Driver, Maclean, and Co., on the part of the Council, to purchase the Dunedin Gas Works at a sum of L 20,000. “Your Committee would respectfully suggest that uo discussion should take place to May on this report, and recommend that a special meeting he convened at an early date for its consideration.”
