RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
This Day. (Before A.C. Strode, Esq., R.M.) Civil Cases. Seaiilan v. M‘Murray.—At the request of Mr Anderson, who appeared on behalf of the defendant itqthc absence of Mr Haggitt, it was decided that the further hearing of this case should bo proceeded with on Friday next at 12 o'clock. Howard v. Hawkins.—Claim, L2 los. No appearance. Mitchell v. Bathgate.—Claim, LG 2s 6d, amount received by defendant as Provisional Trustee of the Supreme Court for the sale of a cow and pig, the property of the plaintiff. The case was adjourned to Friday the 25th iust., to enable the plaintiff to pro* cure counsel. Reid v. Dodds.—Claim, L 7 10s 5d for goods supplied. Judgment by default for plaintiff for the amount claimed with costs. Rutherford v. Rogers.—Claim, L 3. No appearance. Rollings v. Levy.—Claim for L2 7s G.l, the value of coals alleged to have been supplied by plaintiff. Tlio defendant denied ordering or receiving the coals in question. After hearing two witnesses, his Worship gave judgment for the defendant. Hayden v. White.—This was a claim for Ll2, for damage done to plaintiffs lighter while lying alongside a schooner off the Stuart street .lofty, through the defendant’s lighter coming into collision with it. Mr Bathgate appeared for the defendant. His Worship, after hearing evidence, decided that the collision took place through want of care on the part of the defendant, and gave judgment for the plaintiff for the amount claimed, with costs. Six cases were called, in which the Collector of the North Taieri road rates was plaintiff, for sums varying from 10s to L2 10s. There being no appearance in any of the cases, they were all dismissed.
