RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
Tms Day. (Before A. C. Strode, Esq., R.M.) Civil Cases. Monaen V. Stott.—-A claim Dr rent, L 9 11s 6d, and goods supplied Mr Hards for the plaintiff, and Mr Ward for the defence. The defence was that there was no rent due, as notice to quit had been given by the plaintiff, and acted upon by the defendant Judgment for the plaintiff for the amount claimed. Wheeler v. Maunders.—A claim for Lll 2s 6d, the amount of a dishonored acceptance, Judgment for the amount by default with costs. Rudd v. Rodgers.—A claim for L2O. Mr Stewart for the plaintiff. Judgment for the plaintiff by default for the amount, with costs. Barrett v. Mack!in.—Lo 16s (id for goods supplied. The defendant put in a set-off for Lo 9s, and paid 7s Cd into c urt. The plaintiff said, a Mr Young, who was brewer to Mr Macklin, owed him the money, and that the goods and money supplied were in liquidation of Young’s debt. The plaintiff admitted that he offered to pay Macklin’s claim on condition of Young giving his 10 U for the amount owing. Judgment for the plaintiff for the amount paid i .to Court. Bannerman’s Trustees v. Thomas Budd. Lll -is 8d; Mr D’Arcy Haggitt for the
plaintiffs. A person named Thomas Ball answered to the summons, having been called to the to answer for the wanderings of a peripatetic goat. Being put into the ri;ht track, the real defendant appeared, but said ho knew nothing of the account, and, his wife being ill, he had no means of checkin; it. Jnd-ment for the plaintiffs for the amount, with costs.
