WASTE LAND BOARD.
This Day. The usual weekly meeting of this Board was hold to-day, at noon. Present- -Messrs Thomson (in the chair), Reid, Duncan, and Hughes. The minutes of the last meeting wore road and confirmed. Mr S. James, Secretary of the Forbury Park Company, applied for a lease of sixteen acres of the sand hills adjoining the purchased lands of the Company. Mr Douglas, a director of the Company, appeared to support the application. He stated the object of fthe Company was not dictated by a desire for individual gain ; that it had been called into existence to supply a great public want, and when the park was made it would at any time bo glad to hand over the property to the Government for a fair compensation for the money expended. He said the company were willing to accept the lease upon any reasonable terms which the Board might suggest. A conversation between the members took place, after which Mr Duncan proposed and Mr Reid seconded, “That the application be granted conditional on the rules and regulations of the company being submitted and approved by the Board, the rental to be L 5 per annum.” The application was opposed by Mr Hughes, on the ground that the Board should not entertain the application until more definite information as to the real objects and construction of the company was before them. The motion of Mr Duncan having been put to the Poard, it was lost by the casting vote of the Chairman.
Mr Wheeler, as agent for Mr J. Minnagan, applied to purchase section 1 block 9, in the township of Queenstown. It was pointed out by the Chairman that the section in question had been previously advertised for sale, but owing to remonstrances by the Mayor of the town and others, the land had been withdrawn from sale on public grounds. The application was declined. Mr M'Neil applied to purchase section 34, block 8, Clarendon, for the purpose of erecting thereon a flax mill. The application was opposed by Mr Connell, on the ground that the same land had been applied for by Mr Ewing for a like purpose some time since, and his application had not been disposed of, and therefore if the land was to be sold, he had a first claim to purchase. The application was refused.
Mr R. Gillies, as agent for Mr J. Flint, applied to purchase sections 34, 41, 42, 43, and 44, block 3—land nuw occupied by him under the Agricultural Leases Act. Granted. Mr R. Gillies, as agent for Messrs Calder and Watson, applied to purchase, at the upset price, a parcel of unsurveyed land, block 7, Tuturau district, containing 450 D acres. Granted, An application was read from Mr J. Reid, on behalf of the Presbyterian Church Committee at Alexandra, for the dist ict surveyor, •when in the district, to mark off a site for a church. Granted ; the applicants to pay the cost of survey. Messrs Gibson and Rumble applied for a lease of six acres of land for coal mining purposes. Grafted upon the usual conditions. . .
Thomas Crawford applied for permission to cut flax on the Wyndlpm Town Reserve. Granted.
A letter wss read from Mr Matheson, runholder, complaining of inconvenience arising from the men employed at Mr M'Farlaus’s steam saw mills, Tapanui, disturbing his sheep.—-The Secretary was instructed to write to the effect that as in his lease bush land is excepted, his request could not be oomplied with. Mr Hayward’s application for a lease of the ferry at the Tois Tois was granted. The application of Mr Treloure to purchase certain land in the Tuapeka East district held under agricultural lease, was granted. The Chairman submitted several plans and maps, and rules and regulations for bush reserves. Other matters of detail were taken into consideration, and the meeting separated.
