Kiorden, charged with using abusive language and assaulting Detective Farrell, was fined L 3 or forty-eight hours’ imprisonment. SLY GROG SELLING. John Natian was charged with this offence. There was four different informations. They wero all dismissed for want of sufficient evidence. stealing tobacco. John Harding and Mary Mason were charged with stealing a quantity of tobacco and cigars from tho premiaas of Mr Mendelsohn, Princes street, of the value of L 7. From the evidence it appeared that the tobacco was missed at about 11 o’clock last night. It was taken from tho counter and the door of the shop. Information wa« given to tho police, and from information received Sergeant Baxter wont to the prisoner s promises and there found the tobacco produced. The tobacco wa« identified as part of the stolen property. The prisoners were sentenced to three month* 7 imprisonment with hard labour.
