- This Day. (Before T. Birch, Esq., R. M.; W. H. Reynolds and W. G. Turnbull, Esqs., J. Ps.) DRUNK AND DISORDERLY. Catherine Gray and Mary Jane Gibbs were charged with this offence, and being old offenders, were each lined L 5 or fourteen days’ imprisonment. J. Ferguson, for being drunk and disorderly while in charge of a horse and buggy, was fined L 5 or fourteen days’ imprisonment. Annie Ellis, for being drunk and disorderly, was fined LI or fortyeight hours’ imprisonment. Mary Bates, for being drunk, disorderly, and Using profane language, was fined L 5 or fourteen days’ imprisonment. BREAKING IN A HORSE. A. Steel and W. Roberts were charged with breaking in a horse in the public street, contrary to law. Fined 5s and costs. Alex. Steel was. charged with having wilfully abused a horse by beating., it over the bead in a vicious manner. Fined 40s and costs. His Worship took occasion to inform defendant that this was a very serious offence, punishable by fine or imprisonment. As this was a first offence, the Bench had decided to inflict a fine only ; but if tlie prisoner was again brought before them, the more severe punishment would be enforced. MINOR OFFENCES.' The Inspector of Nuisances (Nimon) had five cases before the Court. The first was removing earth without permission, for which defendant was fined 2s fid and costs ; the second, two parties for allowing storm water to flow over the footpaffi, were each fined 2s fid and costs, and another for having made an opening for a cellar without permission was lined 5s and costs; and the fifth, for allowing a cow to wander was fined 2s fid and costs. P. Henderson, a buy, was charged with having viciously placed on the. pathway a parcel of foul soil. From the defendant’s acknowledgment, he did it for a “lark.” He was fined 10s and costs, ASSAULT. Cohen v. Scott.—This was a rehearing of a previously decided case. Mr Wilson appeared for Cohen, and objected to the power of the Bench to grant a rehearing without due notice of the intention of the defendant to make the application. ’Previous judgment confirmed. Mr Harris appeared for the defendant.
