The Claud Hamilton, Captain Underwood, left Hobson’s Bay at t p.ra. on the 4th inst., passed Port Philip Heads at 10 p.m., and Cape Sohanck at 11.30 p.m., on the 4th. Experienced westerly winds during the passage across. Passed the Solanders at 8 p.m. on the 9th; had to slow the engines on account of a heavy N.W. gale, and entered the Blufi Harbor at daylight on the 10th. Passengers for Otago—Mrs Walsh, Col. Thomson, Messrs Aitkin and C. F. Black, Miss Cairns, Miss Marshall, Messrs Thoneman, Hartwick; and 17 in the steerage, For Wellington—Messrs J. Taylor, T. Gir, Mr and Mrs Hay, Mr Mitchhell, Miss Stewart, Mr Douglas, Mr and Mrs Palmer and family, and two servants, Mrs White. For Nelson —Mr Duignau, Melbourne, Jan, 4th. The schooner Albertiue, from Mauritius, has been ordered on for Hokitika by her agents. Kerosene has reached 2s 3d. Mr Thomas Webb Draper has been committed for trial on a first charge of embezzling L9OO. Mr J. P. Dalton, formerly Superintendent of the Fire Brigade, is dead. Captain Corzigal, of the ship Napoleon the Third, has been convicted of drunkenness, and his certificate has been suspended for one year. Mr Warded, Inspector-General of Public Works, has gone home by the mail steamer. Mr Quincy, formerly employed by Mr Glen, music seller, as collector, has absconded, and lias embezzled monies. Flour, a trifle firmer, Lll to LI 2 ; wheat, 5s 4d ; oats, 3s IGd. There has been some speculation in rice ; 15,000 bags of Patna sold at a price not stated. A rumor has gained ground that Mr Valentine, manager of the Commercial Bank, has resigned, but it is contradicted. The telegraph charges have been reduced. The Rev. A. M. Ramsay, Presbyterian minister, of Collin, died on the 31st December. There is no truth in the report that General Sir Trevor Chute has been recalled. Business, owing to the holidays, is very dull.
