AN INQUIRY.
To the Editor of the Evening Star. Sir— A letter was wrtten tp the Mayor and Councillor*', and delivered at the Council Chambers, from Mr Blake, last Wednesday week (Oct. 6, 1839), asking “respectfully” time to pay his rates. This letter was not “produced” at the sitting of the Council on that afternoon ; but 'he following morning a distress was put on the chatt Is of'the sad Mr Blake. I would like to know, for the “public good,” whether the Mayor and Councillors are aware of this communication having been sent in to them previous to the action of levying the “distress,” —I am, &c., Barnard Isaacs.
