[The following was published by ns as an “ Extra ” to-day :—]

Napier, Wednesday.

The operations against the enemy have been delayed by bad weather. On the morning of the 4th our forces engaged Te Kooti at Iwitauroa, and defeated him, with heavy loss. The European and Native forces combined stormed his position gallantly. The loss of the enemy was 35 killed, some of them men of note. Our loss was, Captain St George, and 2 Wanganui Natives, killed, and 2 wounded. Te Kooti bolted. Full particulars are not yet to hand.
