BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.

(from our own correspondent.) Wellington, Friday. Last night, in the House, Mr Stafford urged the re-distribution of the representation before next election, and pointed out the absurdities of the existing arrangement, as Wellington having three members and Dunedin two. Mr Bell replied, admitted the necessity, and promised to bring in such a measure first next session. In reply, Colonel Haultain and Mr M'Lean said the troops at Fort Galatea had returned to duty. The Government had not decided if Colonel Whitmore was to remain Com maudei of the forces* Mr Cracrofb Wilson’s Ghoorka resolutions were discharged on his own application, ' as the principles they contained could be discussed in debate on Mr M‘Lean’s resolutions. Mr Travers resumed the debate on Mr Steven’s resolutions in an able antiprovincial speech. Mr Carleton followed, urging the necessity for the General Government assuming the direction of the gaols, Police Harbors, &c. Mr Yogel replied in an excellent speech, full of statistics, showing the result of Mr Stevens’s resolutions, and said they had better consolidate Provinces till each Island became a single Province, than further split them up. The debate was adjourned. The excitement about gold discoveries near Wellington still continues.
