The regular meeting of the Otago Kilwinning Lodge will take place to-morrow evening at eight o’clock. Great is the rivalry amongst the lithographers, and the constant succession of beautifully executed almanacs issued by them renders it extremely difficult to maintain an opinion a? to which is the best. The brilliantly illuminated calendar of to-day .may be thoroughly eclipsed by some gorgeous production on the morrow. The latest is that printed by Messrs Fergusson and Mitchell, and it will certainly bear favorable comparison with either of its predecessors. The calendar is unusually clear.
The wet weather does not appear to have daunted the volunteers engaged in the Rifle Association’s matches, and it will be seen in our “Volunteer’s Column” that some good shooting was displayed early this morning in the cozitest for the cup presented by the Daily Times.
It is notified in another column that “the whole number of shares in Rich’s Gold Mining Company, Registered,” have been taken up, and that the share certificates are now ready for delivery to the shareholders ; and further, that the company ‘‘ has been duly registered by the warden at Tuapclia under the Mining Companies Limited Liability Act, 1865.” We believe that this is the first company that has availed itself of the new Act.
A crowded house may be anticipated at the Princess Theatre this evening, when the performances, including the drama of “ Rob Roy ” and the Burlesque of “Balia Rookh ” will be under the patronage of the Caledonian Society. Several of the dancers who gained prizes wilj dance, and in the interval the whole of the prizes will be presented to the winners by the Directors on the stage. The number of new accounts opened at the Savings Bank on Monday night was 20. The receipts and withdrawals amounted respectively to £677 and £l6B.
The inclemency of the weather having interfered with the discharging of the cargo of the Alhambra, that steamer will be unavoidably postponed until to-morrow, passengers embarking by the two o’clock boat.
