READY FOR ACTION
FARMERS AND THE QUOTA
O.C. PALMERSTON N., This Day. From what was reported to a meeting of farmers held in Feilding yesterday to consider the country quota issue, it appears that the Action Committee of Federated Farmers has plans already prepared in the event of direct action being decided upon. The meeting went into committee to hear these plans recounted by the chairman (Mr. R. H. Buchanan) and eventually the following motion was carried: "That this branch expresses the strongest objection to the undemocratic action of the Government in introducing a measure to abolish the country quota without first placing the issue before the electors in a general election or by way of a referendum. We call on Dominon headquarters to place our views before the Prime Minister and demand that proper constitutional steps be taken to have the issue decided by the electors under the present law. Failing this,, we are reluctantly compelled to pledge our support to^lirect or any action that the Dominion President and his executive decice to take." Mr. V. B. Short intimated that he had prepared a scheme whereby direct action could be taken wKhout causing any distress to the town or city communities. Such things as shutting factories and tipping milk down drains, he said, affected tlie people but did not get at the Government. It was the latter that was required.
