GOVERNOR-GENERAL'S MOVE

THE HAGUE, October 26. The Governor-General of the Netherlands East Indies, Mr. van Starkenborgh Stachouwer, has been given leave to resign at his own request. He gave notice of his resignation on October 15. It is reported to be because of a difference pf opinion with the Dutch Government on the attitude to be adopted to the Indonesian nationalist movement.

In connection with this resignation, the Consul-General for the Netherlands (Mr. M. F. Vigeveno) said that Hilversum radio announced that wellinformed circles stated that Mr. Stachouwer's request to be relieved from his post, was due to the fact that he was more opposed than the Government to open discussions with the Nationalist leaders before the rule of the Netherlands was re-established.
