LAVAL'S INTENTIONS

Rec. 2 p.m. LONDON, July 26. Reuters Barcelona correspondent says it is reliably learned that Pierre Laval, head of the Vichy Government, has applied to the Spanish authorities for his release from Montjuich fortress. It is believed that Laval intends to go to Paris at his own risk.

"Acting Petty Officer is official for me from midnight tonight," says Derek Maule, son of Mr. L. J. Maule, of Wellington, writing from Kingston after the last of the examinations under the Empire Air Training scheme. Derek Maule came first among all competitors. He is now in London.
