DEVOTION TO DUTY
A fine record of service is summarised in the citation received by the Air Department to the recent award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Flight Lieutenant Benjamin D. New, Palmerston North. "Since 1942," states the citation, "he was engaged in the transport of freight and troops and the evacuation of casualties in the battle areas of the Western Desert, Sicily, and Italy. In addition, he has participated in supply dropping and troop transit in Burma. Many of these sorties have been flown at night over mountain terrain and in adverse weather. More recently he has flown on supply and troop transport operations in support of the 14th Army on the Imphal and Arakan fronts. Throughout all these operations Flight Lieutenant New has displayed outstanding courage, determination, and devotion to duty." His father is Mr. G. W. New, Awapuni, Palmerston North-
