ON REDUCED SCALE

ENGAGEMENTS IN BURMA

Rec. 9 a.m. COLOMBO, July 26. A South-east Asia Command communique says that fighting has continued on a reduced scale along the Mandalay-Rangoon road between Toungoo and Nyauglebin. The strongest attempts by the enemy to force a crossing of the road were in the Penwegon area, where British and Indian troops, wtih armoured cars in support, engaged three enemy groups. The northern sector of the front west of the Sittang is now clear of the enemy except for stragglers.
