WAR AMPUTEES
SOCIAL GATHERING
The loss of legs, arms, and hands in no way dulled the spirits of those who attended the Wellington War Amputees' Association's reunion recently. All appeared to be in the right mood for an enjoyable evening, and they certainly had it. As the president, Mr J. Noblett, remarked: "This is the one evening in the year we all look forward to, when we meet old1 friends similarly disabled, and can discuss old times." _, _ T , . ~ In welcoming the guests, Mr. Noblett made special reference to the Commodore of the Evans Bay Yacht Club (which club had for many years sponsored the Wellington association). The high light of the evening for the amputees was an address by Dr. J. Kennedy Elliott, who gave an interesting account of his experiences in the limbfitting centres in England, Canada, and America, and outlined new improvements in artificial limbs to be introduced in New Zealand. A combined toast to the R.S.A., the league, and the Evans Bay Yacht Club was proposed by Mr. G. W. Burtt (2nd N.Z.E.F.), and responded to by Mr. W. H. Cunningham, president of the Wellington R.S.A., Mr. F. Loudon, manager of the Vocational Training Centre, and Mr. Allan Johnson, Commodore of the Evans Bay Yacht Club. Much of the success of the evening was due to the ladies' committee, which decorated the cafeteria and prepared and served an excellent supper.
