"ALLIED CAUSE IS LOST"
BRUSSELS, July 24.
Speaking during the debate in the Chamber of Deputies on King Leopold's actions during the German occupation of Belgium, the Foreign Minister, Mr. Spaak, read a memorandum written by Mr. Pierlot, Belgium's wartime Prime Minister, concerning the last interview he had with the King before the Belgian collapse in 1940. Mr. Pierlot declared that he tried to persuade the King to go to England, but the King reolied: "The Allied cause is lost. I have a feeling that if >I leave I shall never return to Belgium."
