N.Z. HEALTH STAMPS
SET FOR THE ROOSEVELT COLLECTION
The famous stamp collection of the late President Roosevelt now contains a full set of New Zealand Health stamps—an addition which has an interesting history. When Mr. Sydney Greenbie, special assistant to the American Minister, arrived in New Zealand, he aad his wife became greatly interested in the welfare of crippled childuen, and made a round of visits to see the care being given to them. Major Meachen, secretary of the Crippled Children Society, suggested that as a token of regard for the interest thus shown, Mr. Greenbie should be presented with a set of the stamps; but not being himself a collector, he thought he would turn them over to the President for his collection, and wrote to t Mr. Roosevelt accordingly. The President wrote expressing great satisfaction, but unfortunately the stamps could not be sent in time for Mr. Roosevelt to see them. They were handed to Mr. Greenbie three days before the President died. The stamps were sent to Mrs. Roosevelt, who has since written that they were being added to her husband's collection.
