Setting a Precedent.
A woman' for the first ; time has been appointed governor of. the famous women's : gaoV Holloway prison, says; the "Daily Mail." She is Di\ May Taylor, 30 years old,, and the mother of two children. : Mrs. Taylor said that a married woman was bound to have a better insight into women prisoners' problems, because the majority of prisoners were married. Charity Ball. Charitable causes will benefit from the proceeds of the 1945 Charity Ball, which is to be held in the Wellington Town Hall on Tuesday, July 31. Tickets are reported to be selling heavily, and those requiring accommodation are advised to purchase early. The gallery plan will open on Tuesday next at the D.I.C. East College Concert. ; An entertainment organised with the object of raising funds for a swimming pool at Wellington East Girls' College will'be held in the college assembly hall next Wednesday night. An excellent programme of items will include dancing by the pupils of Miss Margaret Oates, an ex-pupil of the college, the senior and junior choirs will sing, and ! there will be items by assisting artists.
