RED CROSS FUNCTION
The annual conference of the Dominion Council of the New Zealand Red Cross Society will be held in Wellington from July 25 to 27. A special feature will be a function at the Town Hall on Thursday, July 26, at 8 p.m. The Governor-General, Sir Cyril Newall, patron of the society, and Lady Newall, patroness of the Junior Red Cross and Commandant-in-Chief of the Red Cross V.A.D.s, will attend. To receive their Excellencies, a guard of honour, consisting of members of the V.A.D. and transport units, will be formed. An attractive tableau, portraying the Red Cross as "The Greatest Mother in the World," has been arranged by Mr. W. Wauchop. There will be musical items, the programme being in the hands of Mr. Albert Bryant, and the. artists being Miss Molly Atkinson, Miss Joan Bryant, Mr. Lex McDonald, and Mrs. Craig McKenzie. Of special interest will be a film from the International Red Cross Headquarters in Geneva, entitled "One Way Remains Open," depicting the work of the Red Cross for prisoners of war.' During the evening the society's annual report will be presented for adoption. The Boys' Institute Senior Band, under Bandmaster King, will be jin attendance. An invitation is exI tended to all members and supporters tof the Red Cross to attend, especially I ex-servicemen and ex-prisoners of war.
