VEGETABLE PRICES

MEMBER'S STATEMENT

A notice of question was given by Mr. M. H. Oram {National, Manawatu) in the House of Representatives yesterday asking the Minister of Supply : whether, in view of protests received by members as to the inaccuracy of figures quoted by the member for Grey Lynn (Mr. F. Hackett) last week as being those paid to producers by .fruit and produce auctioneers in contrast with the charges to the public for the same lines, the Minister would state if the auctioneers were working on a fixed commission basis, and if so would he give the rate of that commission? Mr. Hackett, who said an attack had been made on his honour, was given the leave of the House to quote fully a statement made by a vegetable grower in Auckland on which he said he had based his criticism as to the Disparity between the prices received by growers and the prices charged consumers.
