WASTE DEPOT CROUPS TO COMPETE

Reports given at a recent meeting of the committee show that excellent progress is still being made tov/ards the collection of patriotic funds and in serving the public at the same time. Too much praise cannot be given to the day-by-day helpers who give their time and energy to working for the men and women of the Services. As the result of the efforts of Mrs. F. H. Whatley (president) and the committee, £200 was raised for the patriotic funds from a week in the Patriotic Shop, Manners Street. This' donation brings the total to approximately £2000. The committee is now aiming to bring its donations up to £3000 before the war ends, and it has been decided to hold a competition between the Army clothing group and the' papier mache group in December. The papier mache group will stock the Patriotic Shop, Manners Street, from December 7 to December 22, and the Army clothing group will stock the shop at 21 Courtenay Place <Jrom December 1 to December 15. The losers in this competition are to give a party for all N.U.W. helpers in the New Year. PAINTED FLOWERS TO MODEL TORSO. i Among the varied activities undertaken by the depot.the production of the painted flowers in pots has proved most successful. Mrs. J. H. Collins as convener of this section has been besieged with orders. A life-size doll for teaching mothercraft has been made for the Red Cross and the depot is prepared to take orders for thesp> Another new departure was the. production of a life-size model of a human torso, complete with all organs, made to assist a medical student. . The mending of socks for the Army is still canned on. Miss Townsend as convener of the Army clothing group is pleased to welcome any new helpers who would like to assist with this work, which is a great service
