WELLINGTON WEST
Mr. C. M. Bowden, National candidate, in the course of his address last evening at Karori West, made it clear that the National Party stood for preference to unionists, but would allow the question of compulsory or voluntary union membership to be determined by secret ballot of the workers in each industry. The party wished to safeguard the interests of all the people and uphold the right of every citizen to well-paid employment under good conditions of work, ample leisure for home -life, and paid holidays for workers. It was proposed to prevent the misuse of union funds for political purposes. The funds, he contended, should be retained for the benefit of contributors.
